Installatron gives you the ability to create backups of your applications. These backups only contain information about the installation of the web application and not about other data from your hosting package, such as e-mail accounts.
This guide uses WordPress as an example, but the same steps apply to any application installed through Installatron.
Creating a backup
By following the steps below, you can easily create a backup of your web application.
1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
2. Under 'My Applications', click on the name of the application you want to back up.
3. Click the 'Backup' button.
4. You will now see an information screen where you can give your backup a label. When you are done, click the 'Backup' button.
5. The backup process will start. It may take a a few minutes before the backup is done, which is normal. You can close DirectAdmin or your web browser while the backup is being created.
Restoring a backup
If something has gone wrong with your website and it is no longer functioning properly, you can restore a previously created backup of the installation via Installatron. Just follow these steps:
1. Under 'My Applications', click on the name of the application you want to restore.
2. Click on the 'My Backups' tab at the top of the screen and click on the 'Restore' button of the backup that you want to restore.
3. Installatron will now ask whether you want to restore the backup to the original location or to a new location. Usually, 'Restore to original location' is the preferred option. Under this heading, click the 'Continue' button.
4. Installatron will now ask which data you want to restore. If you only want to restore certain files or database data, you can specify that here. At the bottom of the screen, click the 'Restore' button to restore the backup.
5. The backup will now be restored. A progress bar will indicate the status of the restoration process.
Deleting a backup
Backups can take up a significant amount of disk space. It is advisable to delete old backups from time to time to stay within the disk space limit of your hosting package. Old backups can also be deleted via Installatron.
1. Under 'My Applications', click on the name of the application you want to delete a backup for.
2. Click on the 'My Backups' tab at the top of the screen.
3. You will now see an overview of all available backups. Select the backups that you want to delete and click the button with the cross. If you hover your mouse over it, you will also see the word 'Delete' appear.
4. Confirm the deletion of the backups by clicking the 'Delete' button on the following screen. The backups will then be removed.
Setting up automatic backups
Backups can also be created automatically by Installatron. You can choose how frequently these backups should be made. Keep in mind, however, that depending on the size of your website, this can consume a significant amount of disk space.
1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
2. Under 'My Applications', click on the name of the application for which you want to set up automatic backups.
3. If you have only one application, you will go directly to the settings screen. If you have multiple applications, click the button with the blue wrench next to the application whose settings you want to edit.
4. Scroll down to the 'Automatic Backup' section.
- To disable automatic backups, select 'Do not automatically maintain backups'.
- To enable automatic backups, choose the option you prefer.
5. Finally, click 'Save All'. The settings for automatic backups are now saved.
