It is a good practice to make backups of your data regularly. Keep in mind email, databases and of course the data on your website. Through DirectAdmin, you can easily make backups of these things. In this manual, it is explained how you can do so.
This type of backup is meant to store locally on your computer and not on your hosting package. Download the backup after it has been made and remove it from your package. If you want to use online backups, you can use our recovery points or make backups of your CMS through Installatron.
On our hosting packages, recovery points are available. If you have another package, or the option seems to be missing, contact us at support@partners.one. We can look in our own recovery points for your data and configurations.
Making a backup
Making a backup through DirectAdmin can be done through the steps below.
1. Log into DirectAdmin.
2. Within the menu, go to 'Advanced Features' and then 'Create/Restore backups'.
3. Choose which data should be included in your backup and then click on 'Create backup'.
| Domain folders | all files which can be found under the folder 'Domains' within the File manager of DirectAdmin |
| Subdomain lists | the list of subdomains from your domain |
| List of e-mailaccounts | all saved e-mail and e-mailaccounts |
| E-mailforwarders | all forwarders |
| Automatic replies | all automatic replies |
| Vacation messages | all vacation messages |
| Mailinglists | all mailing lists and its settings |
| E-mailsettings | set up e-mailfilters and catch-all settings |
| FTP-accounts | all FTP-accounts |
| FTP-settings | settings related to FTP |
| Databases | all databases |
4. The backup is now being created. Depending on the amount of data, this could take a while. Make sure there is enough free disk space for the backup; else it will fail to be created.
Downloading the backup
It is strongly recommended to download this backup to your local computer and remove it from your hosting package. Only do so when the creation of the backup has been completed, to prevent data corruption. DirectAdmin automatically sends you a notification when the backup is done. After that, you can follow these steps.
1. Within the menu, go to 'System Info & Files' and then to 'File Manager'.
2. Navigate to the backup folder.
3. Right-click on the .tar.gz file and select 'Download' to download the backup to your computer. If the download is ready, you can delete the backup from your hosting package.
Restoring a backup
You can of course restore a backup.
Backups only work on our servers for a specific account
If you want to import backups from other providers and restore them, there is a big chance that that will not work because of differences in file structure. If you want to move your data to your hosting package from another provider, you should follow the steps for a move.
1. Within the menu, go to 'Advanced Functions', then 'Create/Restore backups' and finally click on 'Restore backup'.
2. Choose which backup you want to restore and which data should be restored from it. Then click on 'Restore' to start the restoration process.
Note: if you have the backup on your computer (as recommended), you first need to upload this to the backup folder in the root of your package (so not within the public_html folder). Click then on 'Restore local backup' to get into the right folder.
Remove backup
You can also remove the backups, for example to free up disk space on your hosting package.
1. Within the menu, go to 'System Info & Files' and then to 'File Manager'.
2. Navigate to the backups folder.
3. Right-click on the .tar.gz file and select 'Delete'. The backup is now being deleted from your hosting package. You can also select multiple files and delete them. Do note that this action is irreversible.
