On every visit to your website, data is stored in the logbooks of our servers. These data is hard to read. That is why an analysis tool is installed on every server, named Webalizer. With this tool, you can view some basic statistics.
Viewing the statistics
- Log into DirectAdmin.
- Directly after logging in, click on 'View more' under 'Your account'.
3. Go to the tab 'Domain statistics' and click on your domain name.
4. Click on the month you want to analyze and view the statistics.
- Hits: the number of requests to the server. A request is for example requesting a page, image or video. It is therefore not the total number of visitors, since a single visitor can cause multiple hits.
- Files: the number of actual responses of the requests of the visitor. View the number of hits as incoming requests and files as the answers. Not all hits will result in sending over data; when faced with a 404 error no data is being sent.
- Pages: displays the number of pages which are visited. A HTML-document or something which generates a HTML-document, is viewed as a page. This is therefore not only loose elements such as audio files or videos.
- Visits: these are being counted when a unique IP-address connects for the first time. When the same visitor returns within 30 minutes, this does not count for a new visit.
- Sites: the number of unique IP-addresses or hostnames which generated requests (hits). This is a very rough estimate of the number of visitors.
- KBytes: the number of KB's which indicate how much data is being send from the server. Generally, this is a good indication of outgoing traffic.
Publishing your statistics
You can on the same page, publish the Webalizer statistics for that page. This is optional and in most cases, redundant. More common is to keep the view of these statistics to yourself.
Keep privacy laws in mind
When publishing your statistics, you are publicly collecting the IP-addresses of your visitors. It is therefore easy for anyone to see who visits your website. Due to the GDPR, we strongly recommend to not publish your statistics.
- Check off your domain and click on 'Make statistics publicly viewable'.
2. Then, fill out the folder in which the statistics should become visible and click on 'Save'. If for example you want to have it displayed at example.com/stats, you can fill out the folder 'stats'.
