After uploading your website, you may still encounter the following message. This can happen if, for example:
- The website is not located in the correct folder,
- An older version is stored in your browser’s cache, or
- The index file does not have the correct name.
If this occurs, please follow the troubleshooting steps outlined in this guide. In most cases, the issue can be resolved quickly and easily.
Welcome to the home of yourdomain.com To change this page, upload your website into the public_html directory
Verify website location
Has your site been uploaded to the /public_html/ folder? In a new web hosting account, the /public_html/ folder is provided by default. You must upload your site here; otherwise, it will not be visible.
Verify index file name
Is the filename of your website’s homepage index.htm, index.php, or index.html? If you have named it differently or included a capital letter, the web server will not know which page to display as your website’s homepage.
If the filename is index.html, did you overwrite the original file? And if you have the correct index file, does it have the proper file permissions?
Verify placeholder removal
If your homepage file is named index.htm or index.php, ensure that the original index.html file has been removed, as it takes priority over the other index files. Additionally, remember to clear your browser’s cache to see the latest version of your site.
Verify nameserver configuration
Ensure that your domain is correctly linked to your hosting package and that its nameservers point to the hosting package. Even if the domain is created in DirectAdmin, it will not connect to the package if the wrong nameservers are configured. Verify the nameserver settings to ensure your website resolves correctly.
Confirm domain setup completion
It may take some time before your website becomes visible due to DNS propagation. Typically, your website will appear when you visit your domain within a few hours. This process is automatic and cannot be accelerated by either you or the hosting provider.
