You can set up your e-mail accounts in various mail apps on your Android phone. This guide explains how to do so using the Gmail app. For other Android-compatible mail apps, the process is largely the same. You can use the recommended settings provided here.
To receive e-mail on multiple devices, always choose IMAP as the account type rather than POP. Unlike POP, which downloads messages to a single device, IMAP keeps your e-mails synchronised across all devices. Using IMAP also allows you to access your e-mail through webmail, giving you full flexibility to manage your account from any device with an internet connection.
You can configure a domain-based e-mail account as either a POP or IMAP account using the Gmail app, which comes pre-installed on all Android phones. The steps below provide a clear, step-by-step guide for setting this up.
1. Open the Gmail app, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner, and choose 'Add another account' from the menu.
2. On the following screen, you will see a list of e-mail providers. Select 'Other' to set up an e-mail account that is not listed, such as a custom domain.
3. Enter the e-mail address you want to set up on your phone, then tap 'Next'.
4. Select the 'Personal (IMAP)' option.
5. Enter the password for your e-mail account. This is the password you set when creating the account in DirectAdmin. After entering the password, tap 'Next' to proceed.
6. In the next window, you will need to enter the settings for the incoming server.
Username: the full e-mail address you are setting up
Password: the password associated with this e-mail account
Server: mail.antagonist.nl
Make sure to enter the information exactly as provided to ensure a successful connection and click 'Next'.
7. Next, you need to enter the settings for the outgoing mail server.
Require sign-in: checked
Username: the full e-mail address you are setting up
Password: the password associated with this e-mail account
Server: mail.antagonist.nl
8. You can now configure several additional settings for your e-mail account. Adjust these according to your preferences, then tap 'Next'.
Sync frequency: Choose how often Gmail should check for new e-mails.
Notifications: Decide whether you want to receive notifications for this account.
Mail synchronisation: Specify whether e-mails from this account should be kept in sync with the server.
Attachment download: Choose if attachments should be downloaded automatically when connected to Wi-Fi.
These settings allow you to customize how your account behaves on your Android device, helping you balance convenience, storage usage, and data consumption.
9. If desired, change the account name and display name, then tap 'Next' to complete the setup.
The setup is complete. Your e-mail account has successfully been added to the Gmail app on your phone.
