You can configure your e-mail on iPhone or iPad either automatically or manually. This guide walks you through the steps for setting up Apple Mail.
With Apple Mail, you will always have access to the e-mail you send and receive via Antagonist's mail servers directly on your phone or tablet. Using the Mail app means you don't have to log in to webmail through your mobile browser each time.
IMAP vs. POP
To receive e-mail on multiple devices, always choose IMAP as the account type. IMAP also allows you to continue using webmail without any issues.
Recommended mail settings
You can manually configure your email address on an iPhone or iPad. To do this, you’ll need to enter several settings within the Mail app on your device. The recommended configuration values are provided in the table below.
| Username | example@yourdomain.com | |
| Password | The corresponding password | |
| Server type | IMAP | POP |
| Incoming server | mail.antagonist.nl | mail.antagonist.nl |
| SSL enabled | Yes | Yes |
| Port | 993 | 995 |
| Outgoing server | mail.antagonist.nl | |
| SSL enabled | Yes | |
| Port | 465 (alternative: 587) | |
| Authentication | Yes | |
Instead of
account@yourdomain.com, use your own email account that you created in DirectAdmin. We recommend using IMAP if you want your email to sync across multiple devices.
Manually set up mail on your iPhone or iPad
This section explains how to set up Apple Mail on your iPhone or iPad to receive and read e-mail from Antagonist's servers. The steps for setting up an e-mail account in Apple Mail are essentially the same on an iPad as on an iPhone.
These instructions apply to Apple Mail on iOS 18.5. Steps may vary slightly in other versions.
1. On your iPhone, navigate to 'Settings'. Scroll down and select 'Mail'. Then, tap 'Accounts' to view your existing e-mail accounts or to add a new one.
2. Click 'Add Account' to start setting up a new e-mail account. You will see a list of popular e-mail providers, such as iCloud, Google, Yahoo, and Outlook. If your provider is not listed, select 'Other' to manually enter your e-mail account settings, which allows you to configure IMAP or POP accounts using custom server information.
3. Enter your Name as you want it to appear on outgoing e-mails, followed by your full Email address and the Password for that account. Then, provide a Description for the account, such as "Work Email," to help you identify it on your device. Once all the information is entered, click Next to proceed.
4. When you reach the step to choose an account type, select IMAP (recommended) or POP, then enter the required server settings.
INCOMING MAIL SERVER
- Host Name: mail.antagonist.nl
- Username: the e-mail address you created in DirectAdmin
- Password: the password associated with the e-mail address you created in DirectAdmin
OUTGOING MAIL SERVER
- Host Name: mail.antagonist.nl
- Username: the e-mail address you created in DirectAdmin
- Password: the password associated with the e-mail address you created in DirectAdmin
Note: The outgoing mail server information is not optional. Make sure to enter the required details, otherwise you will not be able to send emails.
Once you have entered all information correctly, click 'Next'. Apple Mail app will verify your settings. If there is an error, check that all server names, usernames, and passwords are correct.
5. Once the Mail app has successfully verified your settings and everything is correct, your e-mail account will be added to your iPhone. You can now open the Mail app to start sending and receiving e-mails.
