In this guide, we explain how to restore your website files, databases, and emails using Antagonist Backups. This feature allows you to quickly and securely recover your hosting environment in case something goes wrong. For example, after an accidental deletion, a failed update, or a configuration error.
If an issue occurs and you would like to revert your website to a recent version, you can easily do so yourself with our Antagonist backup system. There is no need to have manually created a backup beforehand using DirectAdmin or Installatron.
⚠️ Important: Restoring a backup reverts your account to an earlier state. Any files or changes made after the selected recovery point will be permanently lost.
Restoring a backup
1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
2. In the menu, go to 'Extra Features' → 'Antagonist Backups'.
3. Under 'Kies Datum', you will find the available restore points. Choose the restore point from which you want to recover your data.
4. Under 'Te herstellen websites', you can select the domain(s) whose data you want to recover. This includes the files that were located in the /public_html/ directory of that domain at the time of the backup.
5. Under 'Te herstellen mailboxes', you can select the e-mail accounts you want to recover. If you do not need to restore any e-mails, you can leave this unchecked. If no e-mail accounts are available, the message 'Geen mailboxes gevonden' will be displayed.
6. Under 'Te herstellen databases', select the databases you want to recover.
7. Check 'Ik weet zeker dat ik deze backup wil herstellen' and click 'Herstel' to start the recovery process.
8. A window will then appear where you can monitor the progress of the restoration process. Once this process has been completed, you will receive a notification confirming that the backup has successfully been restored.
The duration of the restoration process may vary depending on the size of your website or e-mail account. Larger accounts can take several minutes — or even longer — to complete, as a significant amount of data must be retrieved from the external backup server. It is also often necessary to include the database in the restoration to ensure your website functions correctly and to prevent potential errors.
If you receive a message indicating that the backup has failed, try restoring a backup from a different moment. If that attempt also fails, please contact support for assistance.

How far you can go back depends on your hosting plan. The table below shows which backups are available for each plan. If you would like to keep your own backups for a longer period, you can create them manually via DirectAdmin or Installatron.
