Using an app suite allows you to outsource the management of your e-mail to a third-party provider. Popular app suites include Google Workspace from Google and Microsoft 365 from Microsoft.
If you choose to use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, you will need to update the DNS records for your domain. Please note that this guide applies only to domain names that are both linked to a hosting package and configured to use our nameservers.
Things to keep in mind
There are a few important things to keep in mind when changing an app suite:
- You must have an active Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Make sure that the registration for your app suite with the third-party provider is complete before you change these settings.
- If your app suite is not configured correctly, you may no longer be able to receive e-mail.
- In case of e-mail issues, you should contact the provider of the app suite.
Remember that an app suite is not a forwarding service. Enabling Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 does not mean that your e-mail will be forwarded to your existing Gmail or Hotmail account, as a forwarder would.
Changing your app suite
It is also possible to manually configure the required DNS records for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. This can be done through the 'DNS Management' section in DirectAdmin within your hosting package.
Each app suite requires a specific set of DNS records, such as MX, TXT (SPF), CNAME, and SRV entries, to correctly route e-mail and verify your domain.

Disable local mail handling
If you enable an app suite, all e-mail for your domain will be handled through the mail server of that third party. If you choose Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, local e-mail handling will also be disabled.
You can enable or disable local mail handling as follows:
1. In the menu, go to 'E-mail Manager' → 'MX Records'.
2. Uncheck 'Use this server to handle my e-mails' and click 'Save'.
