To ensure optimal performance and a smooth experience for all users, we have implemented daily e-mail sending limits. These limits vary depending on your hosting package and are designed to help you manage your email activity efficiently:
- Mini: 100 per day
- Starter: 100 per day
- Medium: 1500 per day
- Large: 1500 per day
Purpose of the daily e-mail limit
This measure is in place to help prevent spam and protect both your account and our network. The upper limit serves as a safety net in case the login credentials of an e-mail account or hosting package are stolen. When such credentials are compromised, they are often misused to send large volumes of unsolicited e-mails, affecting reputation.
If your account reaches the daily limit, outgoing e-mails will be temporarily blocked. You will receive 'bounce notifications' with the message 'Unrouteable address' for any e-mails exceeding the limit. This mechanism quickly halts any attempt to send spam, limiting the potential damage and preventing your account from being flagged or blacklisted.
By implementing these limits, we help maintain a secure, reliable e-mail service for all users while reducing the risk of abuse.
What happens when you reach the limit?
If you receive a notification that you have reached your daily email limit, you can find this message in DirectAdmin under 'Messages'. First, check whether the number of e-mails sent can be explained. If you did indeed send that many emails on the indicated day, there is no cause for concern. You can request a reset of your e-mail limit.
If, however, the activity cannot be explained, it may indicate that your account credentials have been compromised and are being used by a spammer to send unauthorised e-mails. In this case, it is important to act quickly by immediately changing your passwords to secure your account.
For guidance on managing your account and passwords, refer to the following instructions:
- Logging in to DirectAdmin
- Creating and managing an e-mail account
- Changing the password of an e-mail address
This approach helps ensure your account remains secure while maintaining smooth email delivery.
Activities to avoid
It is not allowed to send large volumes of newsletters or other types of bulk e-mails through our service. E-mailing via our servers is intended for normal, everyday e-mail communication, such as sending a message to a business contact or a family member. Web hosting is not designed to handle large-scale e-mail campaigns.
If you want to send bulk e-mails, it is better to use a service specialised in that purpose. This also gives you more control and insight into the delivery of your emails. Popular options include integrating services like SendGrid or Mailgun with WordPress. Another commonly used service is Mailchimp.
Other important e-mail limits
When it comes to e-mail, the following values are also important:
- The maximum file size per email is 40 MB.
- You can send to a maximum of 100 recipients at the same time.
